These are just two examples I’ve seen recently of dealerships putting goddamn window banners on their cars. The Kia already has another decal and a plate frame, too! How greedy can you get for free advertising? I was really tempted to write a note for the Kia owner with instructions on how to remove that bullshit. This makes me irrationally angry.

I don’t mind it on loaner cars. But definitely no for anything a customer purchased.

There was a Hyundai dealer where I used to live that would do this to every car they sold. They used letters that were like 3" tall too, it was incredibly obnoxious.

I’ve never understood why people keep the dealer license plate frame. Why would you want any advertising in the back of your car. But I also hate badges that list ”features”of the car. Make and model, maybe trim level. That’s it.

Some dealers put one on every time the car comes in for service.

Yeah, Bulldog Kia does it on their entire inventory. I’ve already contacted them a few times asking why, and never heard back.

I’m not sure how I would respond to that. That would probably make it in my dealer feedback survey.

Yeah, I think most people either don’t notice or don’t care.

The only dealer frame I would keep is a pink AutoNation one, after using nail polish remover on the text of course.

I always ask the owner of the car if they want the sticker or decal removed.

When they say, ‘but the dealer put it on’, I reply, ‘yes, but are they paying you or did they give you a discount to advertise for them?’. To which the reply is always, ‘no, take it off’.

The big thing here is Ford dealers putting banners across the rear window of F150s that say “Built *insert dealership name here* Tough!”

i.e. “Built Tusket Ford Tough!” etc....

Pretty freakin’ ridiculous...

My parents’ Expedition had a lot of dealership branding. There was a banner on the rear window that said “www.ChicagoCarCenter.com”

Then it had a big gaudy unmistakable sticker on the tailgate that said the same. THEN it had two license plate holders that said the same. Oh come on, we get the point already. lol

Simply knock $500 off for every sticker. Per year of ownership.

I had a tire repair place once sneak one of those transfer decals to my rear glass. I drove back there 10 minutes later and made them take it off!

The Subaru dealer tried that shit with when they were prepping my WRX for me. I told them no stickers, plate trim or dealer emblems right off the bat. And if they attempt to mount my front plate, I’m walking.

I debadge all of my cars, so the car company doesn’t get to use me for advertising either.

There’s a KIA dealership near me with really annoying radio commercials. The guy who owns the dealership calls himself “that family guy” and every car has a rear window banner that says “www.thatfamilyguy.com” on it. He puts it on his new and used inventory.

Some plces give you discounts for having a frame or sticker with their name on it. A car wash place that’s popular around me does something like 10% off anything they offer for having their plate frame on.

Does this actually work now? Generally if I see a dealer sticker, I avoid that dealer. Plate frame? Fine. Sticker? Nope. Dealer Club Banner? The dealer deserves to get review bombed.

It’s an Athens thing. Bulldog Kia does that to every car. It’s annoying but I guess you could just take it off with a razor and some windex.

when I had my SRT-4, the Dodge dealer closest to work did that shit to me once.

Once.

I got back to work and as I was walking in I turned around to see a dealer plate frame in place of the one I had put on previously. Went in, got a screwdriver, changed it back, and as I left to go home I stopped at the dealer and threw their plate frame on the floor in front of the service writer’s desk and gave them an earful.

The dealer from which I bought my car puts their name on the back of every car they sell, but for some reason there was no such sticker on the back of mine - how did they know?

I remember my dad once asking the salesman how much of a discount they were going to give him for them placing their advertising on his car. Not surprisingly, no sticker was present at the time of delivery...

At least with that crap on the windows it’s much safer and easier to remove that the stuff they put on the painted portion of the vehicle. A quick swipe with a razor blade and the problem is solved without worrying about scratches or mismatched paint.

That’s balls. Presumably you spent money on the frame you had on it. I also swap the screws with stainless steel so they don’t rust. If either of those parts were swapped for a dealer part,I would consider that theft.

I worked for Alpine at the time, and got one from work. basically a black frame with the /////ALPINE logo on the bottom.

and yes, nowadays I put metal frames with security hex screws on it. if anyone’s going to pull that shit again, I’m at least going to make them work at it.

I’ve been seeing it more and more. I’d rather that than stickers on the paint.

And the badges just work better in general if they’re somehow incorporated into the overall design of the trim, as opposed to stuck on in random spots.

Local Nissan dealership does that here. Though it’s much bigger.

BUT! You get free oil changes for life if you keep it.
